ABOUT
SARA CURRY DAY SCHOOL
Our school grew out of the Little Missionary’s Day Nursery, founded in 1896, which is dedicated to the education of children ages two to six. We are very excited to be at the forefront of Emotional Education, and to expand our work to the upper grades.
Sara Curry Day School is a progressive K-5 Elementary School, based on the A.R.T. philosophy used in the Nursery School. We will take that philosophy up through the grades, while building on children’s academic skills through project-based learning.
Our curriculum is child-directed. This means that we want children to tell us what they want to learn. Through their interests and passions and individual talents we enable them to achieve academic standards. Through play and experimentation, creativity and inquiry, we let children stretch the boundaries of their world.
Our primary focus is the child, and all our teachers put in many hours of staff development each year, studying the psychological development of the child and the development of the child’s cognitive functions, as well as keeping up with the latest research in education.
We are housed in an elegant and spacious brownstone on St. Marks Place. In the future we will be expanding our facilities and are currently involved in developing an Expansion Fund. Please email if you would like to be part of this very exciting growth project: littlemishkids@aol.com
